Hole In The Wall Day
The birthday girl..
Back in 2008 FOX aired a show called ‘Hole in the Wall.’
Kathy and I were not faithful watchers…but on September 18, 2008, we spent the night in the hospital.
Kathy had been due on September 15 and the baby wasn’t interested in coming out quite then…and by September 18 things were ready to happen.
But it wasn’t happening quick.
We spent a good chunk of time waiting that evening - but the nurses promised us we’d have a baby on September 18th.
So while we waited we looked for anything to watch on TV…and there was a lot of distracted channel-changing before we settled on ‘Hole in the Wall.’
The premise was easy to follow for a couple of nervous parents-to-be (second child, but still nervous) - a wall moved towards the contestants, and when it reached them it would knock them off a pedestal into water.
The only way they could avoid being knocked into the water was by contorting their bodies to match - yup, you guessed it - a hole in the wall, which as the rounds progressed got more and more complex to contort to.
There were a few episodes on that night so we spent some time watching that…and then midnight came and went and it was September 19th and we didn’t have a baby on September 18th like the nurses promised.
But for 17 years we have acknowledged ‘Hole in the Wall Day’, which was really yesterday…and on September 19th, much more joyously, the birthday of our middle daughter, who turns 17 today.
