The Mets In September

I did not enjoy the 2025 Mets.

Which is crazy because after 2024 they had a grace period.

I could have lived off of those vibes for an entire season and it would have been fine.

But the way this season went down is what makes it so disappointing.

I am not surprised at all by this outcome.

I told you way back in March that I thought there would be repercussions from the deep playoff run and it’s never easy to do that again.

The outcome ended up where I was expecting…but the way it happened was certainly not what I was looking for.

When the Mets jumped out to 21 games over .500 it felt like it wasn’t going to come down to the last day of the season.

But the 5th-worst record in baseball since June 13th (38-55) certainly changed the equation.

I can’t believe another Mets season came down to needing a win against the Marlins in game 162 and the Mets couldn’t do it.

That’s what made last season so special - when the Mets had their backs against the wall they always responded.

This year they never did.

And when it comes down to it - there have been way more seasons like 2025 than there have been like 2024 in my life.

I don’t like hearing people calling this a collapse.

Collapses are more sudden. A shorter amount of time. This has been a disaster for a lot longer.

There are going to be a lot of changes moving forward.

I can’t say I care very much right now.

I want to believe that this missed opportunity will only fuel the team moving forward and that there’s a lot of positive times to come between young talent and the ability to spend on better players.

But I think I’m going to need to see it to believe it.

Because I want to believe we’re in a different era of Mets baseball…but right now it sure does look a lot like the old one.
