That's A Wrapped
Spotify gives out a lot of stats in its year-end wrap-up, Spotify Wrapped.
I think mine in 2025 should have had one more designation: “Least Exciting Wrapped Ever.”
I had wondered here how the way I was listening to music this year would affect the Wrapped…turns out it kind of threw it for a loop.
There were a couple of albums that, after my initial listen as a ‘New Thing’, I listened to pretty continuously for a while…but even those didn’t last too long.
So they dominate my Wrapped - My Morning Jacket’s ‘is’, Taylor Swift’s ‘Life Of A Showgirl’ - and otherwise I had a lot of songs from some of my mixes that I’ve listened to over and over again.
And my total listening time was a total of 3 days. That’s minuscule compared to previous years of mine.
Sometimes it’s fun to see which day I listened to Spotify the most - in the past it’s been on days I did that round trip to New York for a Mets game. It’s a nice little trip down memory lane to think, “Yes, I remember that long run,” or “That’s when we drove somewhere exciting!”
This year it was June 20. That’s the night we saw Mumford and Sons (also my most-listened to band this year, likely because of the lead-up to this concert and clearly the night of the concert) - and, sure, the drive there was kind of fun but the hours on Spotify were likely from the time spent sitting in the parking lot trying to get home.
I suppose in the new year I will settle back into my regular listening habits (though I hope I can still continue to work in new music every so often) and next year’s Spotify Wrapped will be a little more indicative of the usual music listening I do.
I’ll tell you what would be interesting: I should listen to my podcasts on Spotify. I use the Apple podcast app, because that’s what I always use. But with all of the podcasts I listen to I’d be putting up some impressive listening numbers on Spotify if I used it for podcasts.
Alas.
Maybe I’ll be surprised and this year there will be an Apple Podcasts Wrapped.
