Club Peloton
I stumbled across something new on Peloton a couple of weeks ago.
Next to a user’s profile picture, there’s a little symbol.
I saw it on mine first, and then I started seeing it on other people’s on the leaderboard.
I assumed it had something to do with the amount of workouts you do - which is basically what it is.
I’m not sure I like it.
First of all, the fact that I kind of accidentally discovered it and wasn’t told about it isn't something I’m crazy about. Send me an e-mail or feature it on a home screen or something. (Unless I missed this rollout, which seems unlikely.)
Basically what it indicates is your ‘level’ - I’m at the second-highest tier, which as you can see in that picture above is Champion. The next level is Legend.
I’ve read through the description of it all, and I’m still not sure I understand it.
You get points for classes you take, challenges you surpass, badges earned.
But I don’t know if I fully grasp if you only get a certain amount per week or if you were to take a couple of classes in a day if you get multiple points.
It’s vague and it’s weird and I think if you reach Legend status you might get discounts on certain Peloton-related things?
I don’t know.
I spend a lot of time on that app.
I might not take 100 classes a week like some people, but I use it on every run and I have worked out often using it and it’s a big part of marathon training when I’m doing many hours of exercise a week.
For a platform that encourages users to progress at their own pace, it’s weird that it has this system of measurement that shows you ‘there are people who are doing more than you.’
I often just do a running tracker when I run outside - instead of taking multiple classes to fill an outdoor run I take zero classes - this feels like I’m being punished for using the app for 45 minutes to an hour but not taking classes the way someone is rewarded for doing two strength classes in that time.
We’re both working hard. I want to be a Legend too.
It seems like at my current pace it would be years before I hit the next plateau. I don’t even know how to measure it.
Maybe that’s the problem - add more plateaus?
No, I think it’s the levels at all.
I am all for earning points. Showing it to everyone on the leaderboard and keeping it all kind of vague doesn’t seem great to me.
You know me - I’m a Peloton fan. I like most things. I think you have to kind of screw something up pretty bad for me not to like it.
I am not a fan of this little feature and I’m going to ignore it on my profile.
