Megan Moroney
Part of this little writing exercise, I guess, is not just to have a record of my personal 2025, but also to capture the moment within the year when I’m able.
So I think that’s what this particular post is about.
One of my daughters is going to Boston Calling, the music festival, tonight.
(It’ll be an unseasonably cold mid-to-late May outdoor music festival. I don’t envy her.)
One of the artists she’ll see there is Megan Moroney.
I remember looking at the list of performers the night she was going and seeing that name and thinking, “Never heard of her.”
And I think I’m here to tell you that’s probably never going to be the case again.
I might be completely off-base here, predicting that Megan Moroney is about to become huge.
She might already be huge. I don’t know. I don't exactly have my finger on that pulse. (A quick glance at her Wikipedia seems to indicate she’s not huge. Medium popular, maybe?)
But I get the impression she’s on the cusp of super stardom.
I read an article about her shows in New York a couple of weeks ago and that’s what spurred me to listen to a couple of her albums.
It’s a lot of what you’d expect from a country artist - lots of songs about heartbreak and whiskey’s role in said heartbreak, and surprisingly, more than one song about college football.
It’s not music I go out of my way to listen to, if we’re being honest.
It’s fine. I just never latched on to country music in a way where I’m seeking it out, and I never listen to stations that play it.
But I know there are a lot of people that do.
And I would imagine shows like Boston Calling increase the awareness of an artist like Moroney.
So I don’t know - I kind of think in a few years Megan Moroney will be unavoidable…like, hosting Saturday Night Live..maybe performing the Super Bowl halftime show? Whatever that kind of fame brings with it.
But maybe we’ll look back on this moment as when she started catapulting to that level…and I’ll certainly remind you more than once that I called it.
