Final Monthly Goal Check-In
Not going to lie - posting these monthly goal check-ins each month definitely kept me accountable. Knowing I had to write about them once a month and not just let them slip by unnoticed helped make sure I was working to meet them.
Overall it’s been a pretty successful year. One last time, let’s take a look at the goals:
Running/Exercise Goals
Take a Peloton Class in Studio: I’ll work on doing this in 2026. I’m not heartbroken it didn’t happen - I just couldn’t make it work schedule-wise. Maybe I can find a tread class that works with my half marathon training over the next few months.
100 Day Streak Challenge: Completed. Interesting that in my Peloton end-of-year ‘wrapped’ (I’m telling you, everyone does this), February was the month in which I worked out on Peloton the most. That’s saying something, considering I trained for a marathon over the summer. But this 100 Day Streak Challenge from the first months of the year is probably a big reason why. For what it’s worth, I am not doing this again in 2026. I don’t need to put that kind of unnecessary pressure on myself.
Complete at least 1 Marathon and 1 Half Marathon: Chicago Marathon (you can read about that one in number 5 below) and Boston Half. Pleased with how these went. I have the NYC Half in March…to be determined whether a marathon joins the roster in 2026.
Complete the B.A.A. Distance Medley: I’m glad I did the Distance Medley this year. I wrote this after two of the races…you can read about the third race at the link above.
Run a sub-5 hour Marathon: This was the goal I think I worked the hardest to achieve this year. I am happy it happened - you can read about the marathon here.
2026 Boston Marathon: Again, probably don't set goals over which you only have so much control. I knew that going in, still, not being able to do this is disappointing.
Writing
Finish Book Draft: This is something I wrote about this goal. I achieved what I wanted here…if I’m setting goals for 2026 (spoiler alert, I am), taking the next step here is at the top of the list.
Document 2025 on this blog every day: We’re down to the final few. One of the posts coming this week will be about this process.
Publish a Written Piece: Again, it became clear about midway through the year this goal was unlikely to be achieved. And that’s OK. Other things took priority. It always exists as something that may happen for me when inspiration strikes. I thought that would happen this year but it also didn’t have to because freelance writing was not the only thing I was focusing on for work.
Other
Read More: I am reading one last book for the year which I’m probably not going to finish before the end of 2025…though I may be able to finish it before I go back to work. Funny enough, and this was not done on purpose, it’s a Jennifer Egan book, which you may remember is the first author I read this year back in January. Nice little full circle moment.
Learn New Things and Experience New Things: Something I will always keep striving to do whether they’re listed as goals for a new year or not.
