Bluey

Maybe you’ve read some of what I’ve written and you’re thinking, “What’s tbe big deal with Bluey, John?”

I am excited to tell you.

I have been thinking about this post pretty much since the year started.

I knew I was going to be writing about Bluey at some point.

I started watching it at the end of last year.

And if you’re now thinking, “Jeez, John, how did you even get into Bluey in the first place? Aren’t your kids too old for it?”

Well, the answer is yes - but my nieces and nephews were always watching it. And when I was at my parents’ I started watching with them one day and I was like, “Wow, this show is really funny.” But it was also sweet.

And then I watched a few episodes on my own and I realized it was just the best.

It’s beautiful.

It captures parenting perfectly.

It captures cute little kid moments perfectly.

It teaches life lessons perfectly.

And it is often laugh-out-loud funny.

I love it.

I didn’t want to sit and watch 100 episodes at a time, although I probably could have. The reason it took me so long to write about it is because I only allowed myself to watch Bluey pretty much when I was folding laundry.

All of the episodes (with one exception, which surprised me) are 8 minutes long. I’d get through a couple of episodes per load of laundry.

At first I was on pace to finish the three seasons of the show in May, then I slowed the pace a couple of times…and here we are in November. (I actually watched the last episode about a week ago, in the last week of October.)

On more than one occasion I’ve gotten teary watching an episode - it’s just so well done.

I can’t specify favorites - there are different favorites here and there, whether it’s characters, storylines, specific moments (though I think if I had to pick a favorite character and the main character of my favorite moments it would be Bingo, Bluey’s little sister), or funny lines.

I could probably recommend specific episodes to seek out or I could quote a specific funny line, but I think the best advice I can offer you is this:

If you want to watch something that’s just perfectly lovely and that will make you feel good for 8 minutes, put on an episode of ‘Bluey.’
