Another Mets Game
I don’t like how this Citi Field sign isn’t centered with the light tower.
On Monday night I went to my second Mets game of the season.
A few weeks ago a Mets game against Atlanta seemed like a good idea.
The Mets were in first place and it seemed like they were about to run away with things and maybe they would even beat Atlanta.
And then they were out of first place and not running away with it and they hadn’t beat Atlanta at all.
But, you know, I love Citi Field, and my daughter was excited to go, and even though it was a thousand degrees we weren’t going to just not go to a baseball game.
The Mets have this app that allows you to earn points and then you can exchange those points for rewards. Some of it is based on money you spend at Citi Field, some of it is from games you can play - I have a lot of points. I used some last year to go on a Citi Field Tour, and this year I cashed some in to get tickets to this game.
On the way in we popped into the store and…well, let’s just say I earned a lot more points. (In case you were wondering if giving free tickets is a good marketing strategy to get someone in the door to spend more money…rest assured it is.)
These tickets were in the same area where I bought seats last year with my membership - which meant we had access to an air conditioned indoor area. I had actually planned on getting different seats but these were the best available I could find and it worked out well - I never thought it would be this hot on June 23.
What was weird was we were in the last row, so it was a little obstructed view from the overhang. They have a lot of TVs to show you what you’re missing - it had been a while since I was in a spot like that.
We had a nice time - the gourmet burger spot where we planned on eating hadn’t opened yet when we went over there so we ended up changing our eating plans - my daughter had fries and a pretzel (and a souvenir cup soda) and I ended up getting a New York Panini Doubleheader - a panini with burger and hot dog mashed together. That was a new one for me.
We ended the night with a Dole Whip, which was refreshing, in a home run apple bowl. I am tempted to get a full family set of those bowls - I now have 2.
We decided to leave after 6 innings. I had work in the morning and I didn’t feel like sitting in the parking lot for 45 minutes to an hour before driving 3 hours. We ended up getting home at 12:10, so the night was a success in that department.
The game, not so much:
Before we left we saw Juan Soto homer to make it a 3-2 game. (It was a miracle, with all the early Atlanta baserunners, that they only scored 3 runs.) I figured we’d listen to the rest of the game on the way back. The last two times I went with my middle daughter we saw a Pete Alonso 7th inning grand slam to tie a game the Mets went on to win in extra innings, and a Mark Vientos walk-off homer, so I thought maybe she’d have a little comeback magic in her Monday night too.
But maybe we ruined her mojo by leaving the game early.
I’m not sure.
I had no qualms about leaving Citi Field early Monday night. My biggest issue was that we had to go back to Massachusetts and I couldn’t go back later in the week.
