S'Mores Waffles

I love a good hotel breakfast.

And, as we’ve established multiple times this year, I also love anything s’mores flavored.

On our first morning in Chicago - Saturday, before we headed out to the expo - both of those things came together in a serendipitous way.

First of all, it’s not cheap to visit the city of Chicago on marathon weekend.

Hotels are expensive, but a free breakfast at least feels like something of a deal.

The hotel where I stayed two years ago did not have a breakfast…but this one Kevin has stayed at for three years now does.

It even opens breakfast up an hour earlier on marathon Sunday, which we did not take advantage of other than the fact that I ran down there for a quick cup of coffee while I was getting ready.

Anyway, there’s always an egg option, a meat side and a potato side (bacon or sausage, potatoes or some other kind of hash), a few bakery items like muffins or bagels or toast, yogurt, fruit, and a waffle maker. (The egg omelets they had on Saturday and Monday were very good. The other days were scrambled eggs that were…less good.)

I’ve historically been a little waffle maker-shy in my life because I don’t want to mess up the iron, but after years of careful observation, over the past couple of years I have indulged in a few hotel breakfast waffles.

It’s always tasty.

So imagine my reaction when I saw there was more than one batter option on Saturday morning - and that second option was a s’mores waffle.

Now, truth be told, it wasn’t the best waffle I’ve ever had - it was just kind of chocolatey, not so s’mores-y.

But the waffle itself turned out picture-perfect, with the Hampton logo waffle ironed-on and all.

I guess there are some things I don’t need s’mores flavoring on.

(Although, as you see in that picture above maybe I should have just drank the batter - that looks pretty delicious.)

There was a different flavor out there on Monday (I had an omelet) - and then on Tuesday morning when we were leaving I think they had the s’mores out again.

I opted for the regular vanilla waffles.
