Recovery Week: Theragun Massager
I wasn’t sure about this picture, but I’m glad you can see that vibration going.
There are a few things I should probably do more of when I’m recovering.
I don’t know why I don’t - there are other recovery methods that require more work or more set-up so it’s not out of laziness.
I think sometimes it’s forgetfulness - like, I forget I have them as options.
One is foam rolling.
Another is this Theragun.
Maybe the thing they both have in common is I never quite feel the way I expect to after I use them so I don’t know if I’m doing them right and I just figure why bother.
It’s only sometimes that they hit the spot.
This one comes as a direct result of my friend Kevin - he brought his to Chicago last year and I tried it and decided it would be a good tool to have, so I told Kathy that it would make a good Christmas gift. (I believe the foot bath, incidentally, was a Christmas gift a year or so before that.)
So I haven’t had it a year - and I got it after I ran the New York City Marathon, so we haven’t had it for a training season either.
I would say the jury is still out on the gun.
I’ve used it here and there - it helped a little bit with my foot. Remember my shoulder injury? It did not help at all with that pain.
I know it will be most effective with the quads or the hips and the soreness that comes there after running 15 or 16 miles.
That’s also when foam rolling is probably most effective.
When I ran Chicago I did pack my foam roller. I gave it a shot after that run, but I don’t remember getting much out of using it.
This time around maybe I’ll leave the foam roller home and just bring this. (And hopefully it doesn’t turn on in my bag - it has a very sensitive on/off button.)
At the very least, I predict I will be using it more this summer.
