Recapping Week 15 Of Chicago Marathon Training
What else is there to say?
It’s marathon day!
I guess I’ll give you the rundown of the week, and then a couple of final words about what to expect today. (I’m writing this before the weekend so I’m guessing Saturday’s shakeout run was about 3 miles.):
Monday: 4 miles, 10:56/mi
Tuesday: 5 minute core workout and 10 minute lower body workout
Wednesday: 3 miles, 11:06/mi
Thursday: Nothing
Friday: Travel day
Saturday: 3 miles, around 11:00/mi
Total Miles for Week 15: 10 (not counting the final 26.2)
Total Miles Overall: 342.27
All told these miles are comparable to what I did training for New York last year…but the way the miles unfolded were certainly different, between pushing 10 miles on intervals certain weeks and the tempo long runs, for example.
I really focused on the 11-minute miles this week. I’ve done the intervals, I’ve put in the miles…I figure the only thing left that can screw me up is going out too fast.
I looked back at my previous big runs - marathons, mainly - they were all 10-minute miles for at least the first three miles, and in a couple of cases they were sub-10. That’s not what I should be doing.
So I programmed the timing into my watch for this week’s training runs, and it helped. I’ll see how that goes in the actual race.
As for the race itself - you can use the app to track me - that’s what’s pictured above. My wave gets going at around 8:30. (Kathy pointed out to me on the way to the airport that’s 8:30 Chicago time, so 9:30 eastern.)
Weather is looking good as of Thursday night - at one point early in the week the high was getting to 77…but now the forecast is back to a high of about 68. I’ll take it.
And I think I’m feeling as fresh as I can fifteen weeks into training.
I have a good feeling.
I may or may not be writing about the race immediately - we’ll see how I’m feeling late on Sunday.
But you can definitely expect some kind of recap this week.
