Monthly Goal Check-In #11

I think we’ve hit the major goals for the year.

There are some that might carry over into 2026, there are others that we’ll kind of kiss goodbye. (100-day Peloton streak is not something I need to do again.)

Most of these goals, though - like learning something new/trying new things - I’d like to make part of my day-to-day life.

But overall, I think it’s been a pretty successful year. Let’s take a look at where things stand:

Running/Exercise Goals

  1. Take a Peloton Class in Studio: This is the big one that might get pushed to 2026. It’ll happen at some point…just with all of my training and the lack of time spent in New York this year, the stars didn’t align. Last week some wait list spots opened when I happened to be down with my daughter but I felt like I would be cutting things too close to get to the class. There’s likely one more New York trip happening before the end of the year - maybe it’ll work out. We’ll see.

  2. 100 Day Streak Challenge: Check. Completed. One and done.

  3. Complete at least 1 Marathon and 1 Half Marathon: Oh, right. Last month’s update was just the marathon. I have now completed the half. And I already have a new half scheduled for 2026.

  4. Complete the B.A.A. Distance Medley: And now this one is done too! Look at that. New goals completed in the final moth. I forgot I had new stuff this month.. I gave a little update on how I was feeling about the distance medley, which also has links to the recaps of each previous race if you’re interested.

  5. Run a sub-5 hour Marathon: This was an exciting goal to accomplish…by the skin of my teeth. I wrote about it a couple of times, but I’ll link to this post about it.

  6. 2026 Boston Marathon: I guess this is the big cliffhanger for this month. Will this happen? We’ll be finding out within the next couple of weeks, I think.

Writing

  1. Finish Book Draft: I did write about this recently. I have to admit though, the confidence took a hit this month. I was editing and felt it wasn’t as good as I thought. We’ll see how I feel this month.

  2. Document 2025 on this blog every day: I had a really big flurry of post ideas this past week and I am set through the first week of December. Can’t really believe that leaves us with just three more weeks. I’ve enjoyed doing this.

  3. Publish a Written Piece: I don’t mind that I haven’t been able to get this done - the right inspiration just hasn’t struck. And my work situation changed drastically, so I have spent less time looking for that inspiration.

Other

  1. Read More: I’m doing another re-read which I should be finishing soon. I don’t have anything lined up beyond that - I think this is probably the last book of the year for me, but I think I’ve done an OK job of reading this year. All told I think I’ve read more - and certainly more variety - than I did last year.

  2. Learn New Things and Experience New Things: Once again, I’ll say this has been sprinkled throughout the year and is still happening. Something like parkrun, for example, is a new thing I’ve tried and it falls under the running and exercise categories, but it’s really been something new that I put myself out there to get involved in and then I learned more about it and how it worked and there’s been a lot of instances like that all year long and I’ve used this year as an excuse to work those things in but I hope I continue that beyond this last month of 2025.
