Monthly Goal Check-In #8

September! Wow.

Final third of the year.

And this is where a lot of the action is going to happen with these goals. Here’s where we’re at:

Running/Exercise Goals

  1. Take a Peloton Class in Studio: I learned how to read the schedule for the in-studio classes at the beginning of August because I thought I might have a brief moment to go to a class one morning we were down there before moving my daughter in to college. That didn’t work out, but I’ll keep my eyes peeled for these last four months.

  2. 100 Day Streak Challenge: Check. Completed. I’ll repeat what I said last month: I always forget this was a goal but I’m glad I gave myself some early goals to achieve while we waited for these later ones.

  3. Complete at least 1 Marathon and 1 Half Marathon: Rubber’s about to meet the road on this one now that we’re in September. Marathon is in October, half marathon is in November.

  4. Complete the B.A.A. Distance Medley: And that November half-marathon is the completion of the Distance Medley. I gave a little update on how I was feeling about it, which also has links to the recaps of each previous race if you’re interested.

  5. Run a sub-5 hour Marathon: Saturday’s 14-mile long run wouldn’t have cut it…but I’m trying to put the work in.

  6. 2026 Boston Marathon: I have done my part as far as qualifying for the lottery, unless things change. Still won’t know about any of that for a bit.

Writing

  1. Finish Book Draft: I mentioned in this week’s To-Do List that since I finished my work writing during the week I had time over the weekend to creative write. That’s happened a few times this month - I get up early on a Sunday and sit with my coffee and work on this draft. Since this was a holiday weekend, I had Sunday and Monday to do that, so hopefully it won’t be long before this draft is done.

  2. Document 2025 on this blog every day: What I’ve been doing here lately is putting my feet up after my long run on Saturdays and while I watch baseball writing the Sunday training recap and then trying to get a few days ahead - if not a full week - so that I’m not scrambling last-minute. That’s worked pretty well these past few weeks. I just need to not run out of ideas/experiences.

  3. Publish a Written Piece: No progress on this. Still looking unlikely.

Other

  1. Read More: I started the book I bought recently - I had been waiting on it because I had some magazines to read. I could have read more this year overall, but I think I’m doing OK.

  2. Learn New Things and Experience New Things: Had a few ‘Learn New Things’ recently…and the Reach the Beach race coming up soon is a big ‘Experience New Things,’ so this is still a pretty big part of my year.
