Matt's In The Band
I have some more tidbits from Chicago to share with you this week, but first we’ll take a musical interlude so I can brag about my brother.
On Friday night, Kathleen Edwards played Brighton Music Hall and Kathy and I went to see her…and Matt, who plays bass guitar in her band.
Back in August I told you all about my history with Kathleen Edwards, and how wild it is that Matt is now a part of her band.
He’d popped in with her for a show or two in the past, and I thought this was for a short time here in the fall…but the tour continues in the new year and he’s a part of it for the long haul.
We had a nice night.
Kathy and I had been to Brighton Music Hall once before - we saw Tom Chaplin, the lead singer from Keane, when he was on tour for his solo album there.
I think it was 2016.
For that one we were up near the front, and for this one we hung near the back. (Next to the sound guy…which Matt later said is probably the best place to get the genuine sound of a show.)
The show was good - she played all the songs I like off the new album, and it kind of opened my eyes to how much of her catalog I don’t know.
And it was really great to see Matt up there doing what he loves to do.
He’s a professional musician, and that’s really cool.
I was proud of him.
I’d never even really seen him play bass guitar before other than just goofing around with friends…so the fact that he’s able to do that so well speaks to his talent.
The show was at the end of a long week, with the marathon and the travel and the fact that Brighton Music Hall is not a venue with seats…but I never really had second thoughts about going.
If the band is headed to your area, you might enjoy seeing Matt play too.
