Killing Floor
I’ve mentioned before the cure to a reading slump is knowing what to read and going out and reading it.
Indecision is the biggest stumbling block - the longer it takes me to decide what to read, the longer I go without reading anything.
For some reason recently it occurred to me maybe I should see what that Jack Reacher stuff is about.
So I looked up which was the first book in the series, and I went and got it from the library.
Slump over.
I didn’t realize how old these books were - this one, Killing Floor, was from before 2000. So it ages OK, but there are some situations - particularly at airports - that just probably couldn’t happen anymore. (Not even because of airport security - also because of the omnipresence of phones and digital technology. But it’s of its time, which is nice in its own way.)
The book is fine. I didn’t think it was the best thing I’ve ever read…but the ending was appropriately exciting. I liked most of the action, actually - that’s written pretty well. (It’s also pretty violent, but I expected that.)
I’m actually pretty satisfied about how this all shook out. I enjoyed the book, but I’m not feeling desperate to go out there and read the rest of the series.
If I come across one here and there and I have nothing else to read, maybe I’ll read it.
If I come across the show I might check out an episode.
This is probably how normal people feel about everything…for me it’s, I guess, a little bit of progress in terms of my usual habit of making myself go through everything in a collection.
