Baking Brownies
I’m not much of a baker.
I can cook - I’ve mentioned this before - but when it comes to desserts and cakes and pies and the various things you bake - that’s not really in my wheelhouse.
But last week I had the opportunity to make some brownies for a thing at work and I said, hey, let’s try it.
And I made the best brownies I’ve ever made before.
I forgot to take a picture immediately, but that one there is a good one because it shows you not only how they look cooked, but also how they looked sliced.
That’s the big thing - I found the perfect consistency for these, which is where I’ve failed in the past.
In the past I’ve either burned them or, fearing burning them, left them too gooey.
(And I say this like I’ve made brownies a million times. Really it’s like, one time burned, one time gooey.)
I guess I just followed the instructions better this time? I don’t know what to credit - and be aware it’s not like I did these from scratch - I followed the Betty Crocker box instructions.
But maybe this opens the door for me to become a little more adventurous.
A friend of mine was recently talking about S’mores brownies she had. I love S’mores-flavored items and I love brownies, so that might just have to be my next baking project.
I also leave the breakfast-time banana bread-making to Kathy during the school year - I don’t need the girls to spend the first part of their day hungry because of my incompetence.
But it’s just about summer vacation - and I saw a good-looking breakfast bread mix at the store this weekend.
So maybe that is my next baking project…and it might be soon.
