Back To The Sunday Ticket

I hinted in the To-Do List on Saturday that I had made a move regarding the Jets games:

On Friday I decided to take the leap and buy the Sunday Ticket for the 2025 NFL season.

I’ve had a long history with the Sunday Ticket.

Back when it was only available on DirecTV I got a dish and had DirecTV for a number of years solely so I could watch the Jets.

This dates back to 2005, when we first moved into our house - and actually included some decent Jets seasons.

But at one point I gave up on spending money to watch the Jets and occasionally relied on a bar showing all the games to get my fix. (Occasionally I set up a video call with my dad and watched the game on the TV in Queens as I “talked” to him.)

Then, when the Sunday Ticket was available online, without a dish, I subscribed to that for at least one season…and then stopped spending money on the Jets again.

I got excited again the past few years and found a few new bars to watch them, and then also in the past few years I spent a bunch of Sundays in Queens watching games at home with my dad and my brother.

And this year I’m excited to watch some games again - but I don’t want to keep driving to New York with the Chicago Marathon and the Boston Half coming and I figured I would see if it was worth doing the Sunday Ticket on YouTube.

Since I’m a new subscriber (even though I’ve had YouTubeTV in the past and the Sunday Ticket in the past I’ve never had the Sunday Ticket on YouTube), I got a great price - $228 for the season.

I’m guessing I’ll be watching roughly 11 games that aren't on national tv or against the Patriots or where I’m not in New York - so we’re talking $20 a game? Sold.

It jumps to $480 next season…that doesn’t seem worth it so I’ll probably cancel…but who knows. Maybe I’ll change my mind or hit the lottery or something.

The first Sunday was a success…as far as the Sunday Ticket goes. There were no glitches. I was able to put the Jets on the big TV and the Mets on the small TV. (I forgot how much work it is to pay attention to two games at once.)

The game itself was a disappointment…but there were positives. The Jets did not immediately make me regret spending my money.

They were competitive. Even though there were hints of Jets tragedies past with the way they lost this one, I think there was much more positive than negative to take away from the game.

I’m glad I was able to watch it at home…and I look forward to continuing to do so in the coming weeks.
